漫画家の原稿料
印税方式ではなく、「原稿料」でした。
40万部といわれている「新宝島」（1947年発行）で
手塚治虫も原稿料でした。
はじめに3,000円もらって、重版しても追加はないのです。
1949年の「週刊朝日」の記事では、
原稿料は10,000円が普通だったといいます。
64ページの漫画で2,000円～30,000円の幅でした。
戦前からの大御所をのぞいては、
漫画家の扱いは「先生」といったものではなかったのです。
漫画家の募集方法もすごいものです。
「まず原稿募集を夕刊紙あたりに出せば、二、三十は集まるし、
紙芝居屋や学生アルバイトの売込みなどもやってくるので、
原稿にはこと欠かないというのである。」
出版社の儲け
収支について、です。
「B6判64ページ、初版10,000部、定価60円」で
計算します。
・一色刷り ・表紙4色
・原稿料10,000円 ・製版（描き版）20,000円
・紙（仙花紙）70,000円 ・印刷代 70,000円
これまでの累計は、170,000円です。
一冊の原価は17円となります。
定価60円で、取次には6掛（60％）で卸します。
出版社に入ってくるのは一冊につき36円。
36円から原価17円を引いた19円が、
出版社の儲けです。
10,000部を発行しているので、
10,000円 × 19円 ＝ 190,000円 です。
1949年の大卒初任給は4,000円ほどですので、
ばく大な金額です。
ただ、ことは簡単にいきません。
取次からの入金は半年後（いまも変わりません）ですし、
返本もあるのです。
売れ残りは、地方の農村に特化本として安く売られていったといいます。
税金について書き忘れましたが、
住所が奥付にない赤本もたくさんあったといいます。
つまり、税金を払わないにわかの出版社もたくさんあったのです。
まとめ
赤本漫画は、漫画家の集め方もいまとは全くちがいました。
原稿募集を夕刊紙に出せば集まったというのです。
出版社も、税金を支払わなかったといいます。
こういった状況だったからこそ、
年間1,800点もの赤本漫画が生まれ、
子どもたちの娯楽である漫画文化が育ったのです。
