先日のブログで、手塚治虫さんが
戦争が終わって2年たったころ、
東京に出てきて就職試験をうけた話を書きました。
1947年（昭和22）年1月にはじめての
単行本「新宝島」を大阪の育英出版社からだしました。
その後、大阪の不二書房などでも何冊かだし、
上京したのです。
就職試験は芦田まんが映画スタジオを受けましたが、
落ちてしまいました。
手塚治虫さんは、東京の出版社に
原稿を持ちこみしています。
このときのことを、
「ボクのまんが記」（朝日新聞出版）に書いています。
講談社にいきました。
「少年クラブ」の編集に会い原稿を見せました。
「こういうまんがをつかうようになるには
そうとう先でしょう」
と断られてしまいました。
つづいて、新関健之介さんの家にいって
原稿をみてもらうと、
「きみは、デッサンがなっとらん」と
喝を入れられてしまうのです。
話がずれますが、
藤子不二雄のふたりやさいとう・たかをさん、
辰巳ヨシヒロさんなどのたくさんの漫画家志望者が
手塚治虫さんの自宅をたずねたことは有名です。
手塚さんも先輩漫画家をたずねていたんですね！
もどします。
「新宝島」が大ヒットしていた手塚治虫さんですが、
「かってくれる出版社はないものかと、
神田じゅうをあるきまわりました。」
というのです。
そのなかのひとつの同盟出版社というところで
なんとか原稿を買ってもらえましたが、
歓迎されたわけではありませんでした。
「二時間ほどまたされたあげく、
『一枚百円ならば、かってやろう』
といわれて、
あまり安いので、ぼうぜんとなってしまいました。
『せめて、一枚五百円でかってください』
といいましたら、
『いいですとも、五百円で・・・』
というわけで、
七千円ほどの原稿料をもらってとびだしました」
という扱いだったのです。
なんとか買ってもらったこの原稿は、
東京の出版社からはじめての単行本
「怪人コロンコ博士」です。
手塚治虫さんが、雑誌ではじめての連載を
スタートするのが1950年4月です。
「少年少女漫画と読物」（新生閣）に
「タイガー博士の珍旅行」を描きました。
上京して出版社めぐりをしてから、
じつに3年の歳月です。
