今回は手塚さんの文章を紹介します。
手塚治虫さんの会社である虫プロダクションの
出版部門の虫プロ商事が出していた
月刊誌「COM」に書かれた「創刊のことば」です。
創刊は1966（昭和41）年12月です。
では、創刊のことばを紹介します。
COM－それはCOMICS（まんが）の略。
COM－それはCOMPANION（仲間・友だち）の略。
そしてCOMMUNICATION（伝えること・報道）の略。
つまり、まんがを愛する仲間たちに、
まんが家のほんとうの心を伝える
新しいコミック・マガジン
－そんなことを考えて、わたしたちは
この雑誌のタイトルを「COM」ときめた。
今はまんが全盛時代だといわれている。
だが、はたして質的にどれだけすぐれた
作品が発表されているのだろうか。
まんが家の多くは、過酷な商業主義の
要求の前に屈服し、追従し、妥協しながら
仕事に忙殺されているのが実情では
ないだろうか。
わたしは、この雑誌において、
ほんとうのストーリーまんがとは
どういうものかを、わたしなりに
示したいと思う。
同時に、かつての「漫画少年」のように、
新人登龍門としてこの雑誌を役立てたいと
考えている「COM」は、まんがを愛する
仲間たちの雑誌である。
月刊雑誌「COM」を、そうした意味で、
読者のみなさんにがかわいがって
くださるようお願いしたい。
昭和41年12月1日 手塚治虫
文章の中に、「漫画少年」という言葉が
でてくるのです。
そして、「漫画少年」の投稿コーナーから
藤子不二雄や石ノ森章太郎が育ったように、
「ぐら・こん」という投稿作品を募る
コーナーを設けたのです。
「漫画少年」の学童社の倒産は昭和30年なので、
11年後のことでした。
寺田ヒロオさんが「漫画少年」に敬意を表して
「『漫画少年』史」を自費出版したのは
1981（昭和56）年です。
寺田ヒロオさんの「漫画少年」への思いが
よく語られますが、
手塚治虫さんも自身の雑誌で表現していたのです。
