ペンネームの治虫は、ふつうは「おさむ」とは
読めません。
藤子不二雄A先生の「まんが道」でも、
満賀道雄少年が「じちゅう」と言ったりしています。
「おさむし」「はるむし」「じむし」とも
読めてしまいます。
わざわざ読みにくいペンネームをつけた意味は、
手塚治虫さんが虫が大好きだったからです。
「ボクのまんが記」（朝日新聞出版）にくわしく書かれています。
ペンネームにつかった虫は「オサムシ」です。

ゴミムシとかヘッピリムシとも
言われたりしています。
かっこいい虫ではありません。
痩せてがりがりで、まるいメガネをかけている
当時の手塚少年に似ていると、
親近感を抱いたのです。
小学校の時に、同級生の石原実さんと一緒に
昆虫採集をしていました。
「ボクは小学校のときから、
昆虫採集をしていましたが、
そのころから、治虫という名前をつかっていました。
このあだ名をつけてくれたのは、
石原クンという友だちです。」
と「ボクのまんが記」で書いています。
石原実さんは、大阪の淀屋橋にある
石原時計店の社長です。
「治虫」というペンネームについては、
手塚治虫さん自らつけた、と本人が言っている
ときもあります。

場面によって楽しくしゃべるのでしょう。
